Property Tax Help

Missouri's Property Tax Credit, or "circuit breaker," gives a credit of up to $1,100 for homeowners (or $750 for renters) to 100% service-connected disabled veterans, based on income. Separately, Missouri residents who are former prisoners of war and 100% service-connected disabled receive a full homestead property tax exemption. Apply through your county assessor. (A 2026 measure to extend the full exemption to all 100% disabled veterans is proposed but not yet law.)

Education: Returning Heroes Act

The Returning Heroes Act caps undergraduate tuition at just $50 per credit hour at Missouri public colleges for resident combat veterans who maintain a 2.5 GPA. The Wartime Veteran's Survivor Grant covers tuition plus a room-and-board stipend for spouses and children of Missouri veterans killed or 30%+ disabled in combat service since 9/11.

Employment

Missouri gives veterans, disabled veterans, and certain spouses a hiring preference for state merit-system jobs, and the "Show-Me Heroes" program connects veterans with employers. Submit your DD-214.
